NBA Draft Scouting Report: Cody Zeller

N

Zeller excels at running the floor. (SB Nation)

By Chris Molicki
Cody Zeller, PF/C, Indiana
Why you want him: Zeller is a seven footer who is very fundamentally sound. He runs the floor extremely well, similar to his brother Tyler. Zeller has a great offensive game in the post, while also sporting the midrange jumper. His hands are soft and he has a wide array of post moves and pump fakes that get opponents to bite.
Why you don’t want him: A bit skinny, Zeller got physically outplayed at times this past year. Double teams killed him and beat him up, and he needs to work on passing out of the post when the defense collapses on him. He’ll have to up his toughness at the NBA level.
Where he’ll be picked: Lottery. Zeller was considered first overall before the season, but he was exposed by teams who zoned in on him. He should be a good athlete and scorer as long as he bulks up, and may wind up having a better career than his brother.
